sea sick
on saturday, i went on a fishing boat for a friends bucks' party. the idea behind it was great, and i was really quite excited to go. the week leading up to the day i was planning and dreaming of catching fish and returning home with plenty of fish to eat. well i could not have been more wrong. i got sick.
oh, man. if you have never been sea sick, it is a terrible experience. if you have, then you know what i am talking about. we motored from lavender bay in sydney harbour, and cruised out about 3 kilometers out from the heads. the drive out i was fine, it was about 15 minutes of lolligagging about in the choppy swell that brought on the uncomfortable feeling deep in my gut. there was no anchor, we were adrift. i think i dropped a line twice that day, but i spewed about 6 times more. out of 20 people on the fishing tour i was the first of five to lose it. so for the next 4 hours, while the healthy ones fished, i either sat and tried to control my spinning head and twirling stomach, but finally i gave in and laid down on the bow of the boat, where i found some comfort. but even still i was vomiting over the side at infrequent, but regular intervals. people were catching fish. i could hear that they were having a good time.
it wasn't until the engine finally started up and headed back to the harbour that i settled down and actually fell asleep for about 30 minutes. the boat was no longer rocking, but was motoring in a straight direction. once inside the harbour, we moored in a bay for a barbecue on the boat. as soon as the boat was moored and the engine turned off, i was over the side and into the water. it was like being reborn the second my body hit the cool water. i felt normal and half way human again. i swan around for a while and kept dunking my head under water. for the rest of the people on the boat, my transformation was amazing. they could not believe it. i could though, as i knew the whole time i was sick, all i needed was a swim to cure me. back on the boat i felt fine, i had some food from the barbie and even a beer. we cruised back to disembark, and i went home to nap. i don't know the outcome of the rest of the party, as they carried on for the rest of the day, but for me it was over.

Seasickness is a hideous feeling. It never occured to me that a swim would cure it. Thanks for the tip. Morning sickness is like seasickness that just doesn't go away. I had it 8 out of the 9 months I was pregnant. But my son was well worth it.
