you can't choose your neighbors

the neighbors are giving me the shits. we moved into this house exactly one year ago today (happy anniversary). so in most respects we are the new kids on the block. however, we are by far not the most annoying folks in the neighborhood. for general noise, that award would go to the two brothers beside us, who have been renovating their place for the last 12 months and more. the bonus is that it is nearly done, and soon to be put on the market, but once again leaving it in the hands of the gods as to who moves in, it is a 50-50 chance between decent respectable folks, or noisy annoying inbred white trash.
which leads me to the family living behind us. let me start off by mentioning their dog that does not ever shut the fuck up and give its high pitched yapping a rest (it is the dog that inspired this blog this morning). for a family of 4 kids under the age of 12, you would think the children would be the cause of the major noise factor, dog included. well guess again. the kids are great, in fact i hardly ever hear them because it is the mother who is the loudest. her only form communication is accomplished through yelling. she yells at everyone in her family, the husband, th dog, and especially her kids. the kids i am guessing are now totally immune to the shouting tirades of their mom. they seem to either ignore her yells, or just not respond to them. i really feel sorry for the children but, there is not much i can do, as it is not my family nor my position to intervene. i just live next door. but to listen to this woman carry on from about 8:30 in the morning until about 9:30 at night is a definite chore. her voice is similar to the scrapping of fingernails down a chalkboard. she yells about everything, which in the end makes her yelling ineffective and thus forcing her to yell more just to be heard. because of this very public behaviour, we keep our distance. i know the whole neighborhood can hear the shouts, and so this families private interactions is quite public knowledge for this neighborhood. i try to find the amusing side to all of this, and have a laugh about it all, however, it is much easier when i just leave the house and go to work.
