no more cancer sticks
calabasas has finally gotten it right. beginning next month there is a total ban on cigarette smoking in public within the city. the only people complaining about it are the smokers. when to the rest of society, it makes perfect sense.
i don't have a problem with people choosing to smoke cigarettes. i only have issue when those people spew forth their cigarette smoke onto me, second hand, when i choose not to be breathing that tar filled nicotine vapor. i too have a right to free and fresh air, without it being polluted by the moron smoking the cancer stick.
smoking cigarettes. it truly is a foul, dirty, and nasty habit. not only is it polluting the lungs of the smoker, but also the lungs of those subjected to breathing second hand smoke. not to mention the effect it has upon the environment after the cigarette is smoked and the fiberglass filled butt is tossed aside into the gutter or on the beach where it is destined to wait for all eternity. these things do not decompose! consider the little kids who discover them in the sand and put them in their mouths as toddlers. your filthy cigarette is affecting people and the environment long after you have had your 2 minutes of pleasure (our displeasure) and you have randomly discarded the butt without any regard for those around you.
i say if you are going to smoke, be responsible for it from start to finish. buy your 2 pack a day addiction. smoke your cancer sticks in private. don't blow your smoke onto those who do not appreciate nor want it. bin your butts properly. finally, pay your own medical bills in 30 years time when you are diagnosed with cancer. don't expect the public to support your treatment, when they didn't want you smoking in the first place.
it may sound cruel, but if a cigarette smoker cannot respect the people and society around them when they choose to smoke, then why should society be forced to respect and be burdened with the smoker looking for the cure to their illness? the cure is simple. do not smoke cigarettes.
